MGN ON THE ROAD
Gaylord
This is a great area to kick off the Labor Day weekend as their are events being held
everywhere, the biggest being the Mackinac Bridge walk.

Black Forest
Once again, the impact of the Osprey Management team is highly visible.  When last we
visited, the courses were fighting off a summer drought.  However, the rains came and both
Wilderness Valley and Black Forest courses are gleaming. Corey Crowell, Manager and Head
Golf Professional seems to be everywhere on the property.

We checked out the Osprey Grill food and found it to be terrific.

Michaywe
Michaywe was bathed in sunshine as I captured the holes for an upcoming television show on
the property. The course was in fantastic shape. Jim Oli, superintendent, continues to
dote on this storied course.  We will marry up our video with the voice of Don Childs,
course architect.  Childs had the opportunity to renovate The Pines a couple of years
ago.  He originally designed the course a couple of decades ago.

Judy Mason was in the clubhouse and stated that they were up in business from last year.
Wow, is that good news and hopefully a sign of a turn around.

Natural
Ed Ford, the manager of The Natural, was on hand as we visited this Jerry Matthews
beauty.  It is the 15th year of operation of the course and they have had promotions
throughout the year.  On September 5th, fall rates kick in at The Natural.  Web:  Golf
Packages http://www.thenaturalgolf.com/rates.php

Otsego Club
The Osprey folks are wasting little time in renovating the Otsego Club.  Many of the early
renovations were cosmetic, but the latest is a real statement on their plans.  A new
building is going up on the property that will feature a new meeting area and some
additional rooms.  The building is scheduled to be done by the upcoming holiday season.
Always an enchanting resort, the Otsego, is getting a fresh coat of love.

Mark Hogan continues to provide the face of Otsego Golf.  He presides over both The
Classic, a William Diddel course and the awesome Tribute course, designed by Gary Koch and
Rick Robbins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEKkWCxAgyA

Treetops
The annual Par-3 Amateur Shootout starts today.  Director of Golf Kevin McKinley,
indicates that their field has grown over last year as they expect 34 teams to
participate.  McKinley also indicated that the 7th hole on Threetops, where Trevino got
his million dollar hole in one, will carry a $10,000 bonus for a hole in one.

Treetops will also be hosting the Pepsi Fall Charity Invitational on September 23-25.
This tournament draws up to 400 competitors each year.  We did a show on this a couple of
years ago.http://michigangolfer.tv/2005shows/treetops/

HEBERT WINS MICHIGAN WINS MICHIGAN PGA PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
====================================================================
Scott Hebert won his second consecutive Michigan PGA Professional Championship with a 2
stroke victory over Randy Erskine on the Eagle Eye Golf Course at the Hawk Hollow Golf
Properties. The 38 year professional from the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa shot a final
round 3-under par 69 to hold off the 59-year old Erskine.

The tournament’s turning point came on holes 10 thru 12. Erskine, playing in the group
ahead of Hebert scored eagle, par, birdie to take the tournament lead. “That was fun”, the
Great Oaks Country Club Head Professional said. “Just like the old days.” But this is 2007
and Hebert answered the call with birdie, par, birdie and coasted in for his second title
in as many attempts. The victory nets the former mini tour player a $7,000 check and an
expemtion into the 2008 Buick Open.
“I got hot on 10 thru 12 and started putting real well. You never know when it’s going to
be your last victory so this one is very enjoyable.”

Brad Dean, the Director of Golf at Crystal Mountain Resort made the biggest move of the
day. He shot a 6-under 66 and finished alone in third, 4 shots behind Hebert.
1st          Scott Hebert       $7000.00
2nd         Randy Erskine    $4400.00

GOOGLE, YOU TUBE, VIDEO EGG AND TRUVEO
========================================
Things  began to get a little more serious in You Tubeland, once Google purchased the
company last year for 1.65 billion. With  You Tube  scheduled to have a profit of 15
million this year, Google must have had something they were thinking about.  Commercials.
Yes, Google has begun to launch commercials on many of its partner's videos.

Basically, Google  took a look at what  Video Egg videoegg.com was doing, added their
research to the mix, and have come up with what is termed as overlay advertising.
Essentially what the viewer will see is a small crawl at the bottom of the video about 15
seconds after it starts.  The viewer can ignore the commercial and let the crawl disappear
(about 10 seconds), click on to the video ad to view it. After viewing the ad, the viewer
will be brought back to the video they were watching at the point where it left off.

As with the case of another site Revver http://revver.com Google would split the revenue
with the video's producer or owner. The start off price for advertising is  $20 per
thousand.  They have found out that viewers would click on to this type of ad 5 times
faster than banner ads.

You Tube has 51 million users at day, which is three times the total of the next three
competitors;  AOL, My Space and Yahoo.

couple of articles we did on him.  First is a story that Terry Moore did on the President
in 1983 and lastly, an article that Michael Patric Shiels penned this year. Enjoy.

G.R.I.P. IT AND SEND IT
====================
Golf Research In Play's (G.R.I.P.) new golf club trade-in program, has been developed to
complement
G.R.I.P.'s thriving online golf club business and support the  Give2TheTroops "Tee
Off For The Troops" Campaign.

G.R.I.P.'s trade-in program is unique because it offers customers credit for  any gently
used clubs sent in.  Other trade-in programs only give credit in exchange for golf clubs
that still have significant value on the secondary  market.  The other unique nuance of
the program is the donation of a portion  of the used clubs received to Give2TheTroops,
who will in turn ship the used  equipment to deployed U.S. Troops who have requested clubs
for recreational  purposes.

VENERABLE BELVEDERE HOSTS MICHIGAN SENIOR AMATEUR
By Terry Moore
==============================================
Ben Hogan once said the game was found “in the dirt,” or in other words on the practice
range hitting countless balls to seek the ideal repetitive swing. Well, in terms of the
ideal golf course that endures and remains popular, it’s also the “ground” that makes the
difference. Such is the case with Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix that will host the
Michigan Senior Amateur, as conducted by the Golf Association of Michigan, on Sept. 10-11.
Tournament chair and host PGA professional Steve Braun says the friendly, rolling
topography of Belvedere is a key component of its near universal appeal. “People of all
skill levels can play this course,” says Braun. “People who play a ‘ground game’ can enjoy
the golf experience here and won’t be losing golf balls in all sorts of hazards.”

This will be the second time Belvedere has hosted the Senior Amateur (the first was in
2004, won by John Lindholm) after having hosted the Michigan Amateur 39 times. “There are
a number of former Amateur competitors playing in this year’s event,” says Braun. “Over
the years, players just fell in love with the area and the golf course.”  Depending upon
weather, players should find a fast and firm golf course with slick but not impossible
greens. “We worked hard the last couple years to improve the firmness and health of the
greens with aeration and top-dressing,” says Braun. “Again, dependent upon cool
temperatures, the greens should stimp at around 10 which is plenty fast considering the
slopes on them.” Such rolling greens will challenge players’ short game skills. “Yes, a
player like Dan Pohl in his heyday could overpower this course but more often than not a
deft putter and chipper like Pete Green would always do well.” Braun also noted knowing
the proper and best angles into greens off tee shots will be paramount.

For the tournament, Braun expects the golf course to be set up around 6500-6600 yards. He
was pleased to report that in the future the course will be lengthened, to accommodate
technology and equipment improvements, to 7000 yards. Tom Doak’s design firm has been
retained to carefully extend and make new tees on at least six or seven holes but without
sacrificing any existing sight lines. Holes 2, 3, 7, 11, 13, 14 and 18 are earmarked for
lengthened tees.

But this year, Michigan’s best senior amateurs will find pretty much the same Belvedere
Golf Club as they relished in the past. Not surprisingly, such luminaries as Walter Hagen,
Gene Sarazen and Tom Watson all ranked the course as one of their favorites.
Funny how “well-grounded” golf courses always stand the test of time.

So he asked the hole digger, "I'm impressed by the effort you two are putting into your work, but I don't get it -- why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?" The hole digger wiped her brow and sighed, "Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-person team. But today the girl who plants the trees called in sick."
