Golf Show Schedule and Preview 14th Annual Metro-Detroit Golf Show January 5-7The Metro Golf Show is back after a one year hiatus. After being the industry leader in the 80's and early 90's the show started losing participants and attendees to such an extent that they shut down the show last year. Diane McQuiston, President of Golf Show Promotions, has picked a new venue for the show, the Sports and Expo Center at Macomb Community College. This is the first time a show has been on the eastern part of the Detroit area since the Bavarian Village Silverdome shows. Info:734-416-5389 PGA Merchandize Show 26-29The folks who remember this show starting in a parking lot many years ago, are awestruck by what it has led too. This is the Show of Shows in the golf industry. It is only open to buyers, golf media and golf industry members. Chicago-February 2-4The 18th Annual Chicago Golf Show has joined forces with IMG's National Golf Show Series for this year's rendition. Chicago, a two-show town, has generally split the industry with their shows, one at Rosemont the other at the Navy Pier, Now however, the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (formerly the Rosemont) has made a move that should put a dagger in the other show's heart. The IMG, fueled by the success of their show, has partnered up with a number of other shows, Chicago being one of them. The show boasts 20,000 attendees and a new sponsorship of the Illinois Golf Association London Golf Show-February 9-11Claude DeMarchi has a nice little show in London, Ontario. He attracts a few Michigan vendors and a fair amount of attendees. One of the surprises of last year's show was a booth from Cuba. An increasing number of Canadians are taking golfing holidays in Cuba, a forbidden destination for Americans. 4th Annual Central Michigan University Golf Show February 16-18Cheryll Nordin runs a very nice show in Mt. Pleasant. The show is held in the Recreation Building of Central Michigan University's campus. The attendance has slowly been building for the show. The CMU team really does a great job at making vendors and attendees feel at home. Info: 517-774-3642 P.S.And by the way, I want to pass on another thanks to the CMU police for their great assistance when I was there last year. They really do a nice job. Kudos. IMG International Golf Expo -Cleveland-February 23-25This is the new kid on the golf show block. Cleveland used to have an abysmal show a number of years ago. Two years ago IMG wanted to establish a show, but then had to abort, as they did not have the numbers. They came on strong last year and Don Wyckoff of the State Travel Bureau will host a Michigan delegation there. Don said it was a great show last year. The show is held at the I-X Center in Cleveland. Last year they had the support of Adams Golf Callaway Golf Carbite Golf, Cleveland Golf (figures), MacGregor, Mizuno and Taylor Made.
Indianapolis-February 23-25The Indianapolis show is up against the West Michigan and Cleveland golf shows during this time slot. This is the biggie of Indiana shows. They do have a Fort Wayne show and a fall Indianapolis show, which is more of a club and equipment sale. The State of Michigan has targeted the Indianapolis area for Michigan tourism, so there will be a delegation of Michigan vendors there.
Columbus March 23-25The IMG is launching this show for the first time. Columbus has had some shows in the past, but has never gotten a good show off the ground. The show will be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, a place literally in downtown Columbus.
