Derhake Named Buick Open Chairman

DETROIT--Anthony H. Derhake, brand manager of golf for Buick Motor Division, has been named Buick Open tournament chairman. Derhake replaces Dave Lyons, who served as tournament chairman in 1998.

As tournament chairman, Derhake will serve as Buick's primary liaison with the Buick Open tournament committee on all event-related matters.

"I am honored to be named the 1999 Buick Open chairman," said Derhake, who has been involved with the Buick golf program for the past three years while serving as Century brand manager. "We look forward to building on the tradition of the Buick Open as one of the top events on the PGA Tour, both for the fans and our charitable partners."

Raising money for charity has always been the primary focus of the Buick Open, which began in 1958 and is one of the longest running events on the PGA Tour. Since 1982, more than $3.9 million has been distributed to local charitable organizations by the tournament, including $500,000 in 1998.

The 1999 Buick Open is scheduled for Aug. 2-8 at Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

Derhake has been a General Motors employee for 30 years. As chief engineer at Buick, from 1989 to 1995, Derhake was responsible for overseeing all future vehicle planning activities, as well as the design and development of all new Buicks. Appointed brand manager of golf in January 1999, Derhake is responsible for leading the strategic efforts for Buick's golf program.
