THE MICHIGAN GOLFER MAGAZINE GOES INTERACTIVE WITH PDF

The publishing history of the Michigan Golfer
1982--MICHIGAN GOLFER MAGAZINE
1995--MICHIGAN GOLFER MAGAZINE ONLINE http://michigangolfer.com
2001--MICHIGAN GOLFER INTERNET TELEVISION SHOW http://michigangolfer.tv
2001--MICHIGAN GOLFER NEWS
2003--MICHIGAN GOLFER INTERACTIVE PUBLICATION http://michigangolfer.com

The Michigan Golfer Magazine begins the year by becoming a totally interactive publication. @ http://michigangolfer.com
Essentially, our magazine is now online in a portable document format (PDF). PDF is a convenient and popular method for distributing information electronically. A PDF document is compatible with Windows, Macintosh, and Unix-based computers, which means that the document can be read on screen and printed from nearly any computer. (In order to access PDF documents you must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. This small software program is available free from Adobe Systems, Inc. @ http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html )

The format will help our readers and viewers in the following ways:
...readers will be able to print out stories as they appear in our publication.

...all advertisements that appear in the publication are hot linked directly to the advertisers website, Therefore, our quarter of a million online readers will be able to go directly to a course or resort that they want to find out more information about.

...advertisers will be essentially investing in a timeless piece of advertising that continues to impact readers, months and even years from now.

...readers that are following a story will be able to click on a video for more information. For example, this issue carries a story about the Caddies at French Lick Resort and Spa in Indiana. With a click on a hot link, the reader will be transformed into a viewer as the first of four stories on the caddies at French Lick Resort and Spa appears on their computer screen.

With the continuing trend of people getting their information from the Internet, the Michigan Golfer has positioned itself as the best of both worlds. In addition, with the migration of advertisers to ecommerce, the Michigan Golfer offers the opportunity for those precious advertising dollars to have an afterlife, a real valued added feature.

MGN ON THE ROAD
Ann Arbor
Congrats to Miles of Golf for making the top 100 in golf shop and golf instruction facilities. The awards were from "Golf World Business Magazine and the Golf Range Association respectively.
Taken from a report by Mike Brennan of the Ann Arbor News.

Grand Rapids
Wow, what a show. The West Michigan Golf Show had vendors scrambling for more brochures as the winter weary golfing public turned out in droves to view an expanded and uplifting show.

One of the crowd pleasers was the Par 3 Challenge held in the Welsh Auditorium. Golfers had three shots at a spectacularly landscaped par three hole. I successful, they had a leased car for a year. There was a steady line up of hopefuls and it was a major league attraction for the show.

Other show stoppers included speakers, Wally Armstrong, Rolla Frishinger and Kay McMahon, Kevin O'Brien with his golf clothing superstore and the new golf courses of Yarrow, Diamond Springs, Crimson Ridge, Angels Crossing and Hawk's Eye.

Ladies golf schools also seem to be heating up, with Kay McMahon joining Innerform, Patti Butcher now at Thousand Oaks, Judy Mason with her now famous Treetops ladies only schools, Pam Phipps and Debbie Massey at Black Lake and Elaine Crosby holding court at Crystal Mountain.

Lansing
The Lansing show is this week, opening today in fact. Hopefully, they will have the same robust turnout as the WMGS.

MICHIGAN GOLFER TV SHOW-THE CADDIES OF FRENCH LICK-PART I
They have met the rich, with Howard Hughes and Joe Kennedy and the famous with Lana Turner, Joe Louis, Bing Crosby, Arthur Fiedler, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and George Jessel. They have toted bags on courses developed by the two of the most renown golf architects of all time, Tom Bendlelow and Donald Ross. Their town was the Las Vegas of its day with its numerous gaming halls. 20 trains arrived each day, dropping off the rich and famous to grab one of the 50 taxis that waited to take them to one of the world's most famous resorts. In our visit segment of this four part series, the caddies, Jack Carnes, Wayne Carnes, Junior Carnes, Louie Roach and Bill Kellams talk about the rich and famous that visited the resort in the 30's, 40's and 50's.. The remaining three shows will be sprinkled throughout this summer and fall.

The Michigan Golfer Television Show is proud to present the first of a series of four shows on the "Caddies of French Lick" Michigan Golfer TV http://michigangolfer.tv

GOLF'S GREATEST EIGHTEEN TODAY'S TOP WRITERS DEBATE AND RANK THE SPORT'S GREATEST CHAMPIONS

In every clubhouse around the world, the heated debate continues: Who really is the greatest golfer of all time? David Mackintosh's new book, "Golf's Greatest Eighteen" has eighteen of the worlds' most acclaimed golf writers take on this intriguing discussion. With all things being equal-who would triumph as the champion of champions?

Using these essays as a starting point, celebrated golf writer David Mackintosh takes us on a journey through the past ninety years of golfing history in his search for an unbiased method of comparing the greatest players in the modern age of the game. With his "New Money" model, incorporating present-day values of past tournaments combined with a mathematically sound evaluation of crucial events in each golfer's career, he has put "Golf's Greatest Eighteen" on the same course, playing for the same prize money-establishing the most prolific championship winners of all time. At the end of each essay, readers can have "All-Time New Money" for each player, so everyone can now realistically compare the true career earnings of such legends as Walter Hagen with those of today's champions. With a better understanding of each legend's progress revalued into modern times, Mackintosh creates a fascinating analysis of the best golfers in history to allow the reader to decide who is the greatest golfer of all time.

MGCOA GEARING UP FOR 2003
John Dodge was on the prowl for new members for MGCOA at the West Michigan Golf Show. Dodge helped bring this organization back from the endangered association species list a number of years ago. Now with Kate Moore at the tiller and John Dodge at the till, they are making continuous strides to make sure the organization remains healthy. Also, the new MGCOA website is up. Tammie Bruneau of TAD & Company is the webmaster. It still has some major filling in to do, but it is now active.. http://mgcoa.org
