GOLF CHANNEL'S BIG BREAK III RUNNER-UP TO PLAY IN MICHIGAN WOMEN'S OPEN
Pamela Crikelair, the runner-up in the Golf Channel's Big Break III
reality show, recently signed up to play in this year's Michigan PGA
Women's Open at Crystal Mountain, July 25-27.
Crikelair, who plays on the Futures Tour, the development tour for the
LPGA, was one of ten contestants on the highly popular Big Break III
show, which aired earlier this year. Competing for a chance to play in
select tournaments on the LPGA Tour, she beat out eight of the opponents
in the weekly series of challenges to advance to the final round, where
she was defeated by Big Break III winner, Danielle Amiee.
In addition to being the Big Break III runner-up, earlier this summer
Crikelair finished second in the Connecticut State Women's Open
Championship. In 2003, Crikelair placed fourth in the Connecticut Women's
Amateur Championship -- all amazing accomplishments considering she has only
been playing golf for three years.
Because of her success in the Connecticut Women's Open, Crikelair
started looking at competing in other state opens. "Through the grapevine I
heard that the Michigan tournament is a wonderful event at a beautiful
location," said Crikelair.
The Michigan PGA Women's Open Tournament is a 54-hole, stroke play
Michigan PGA event scheduled for July 25-27. The event carries a $40,000
purse and tends to draw over 60 female professionals and amateurs from
all over the nation.
Prior to the Championship, there is a two-day, 36-hole Michigan Women's
Open Pro Am, July 22-24. The format for the Pro-Am is a five-person
scramble, where each foursome plays with a female golf professional.
Prizes such as airline tickets and golf equipment will be awarded in both
women-only and mixed teams divisions.
To register for the Michigan PGA Women's Open Tournament, interested
parties may call the Michigan PGA at (734) 522-2323. Registration for the
Pro-Am may be done by calling Crystal Mountain directly at (800)
968-7686, ext. 3354.
