MG ON THE ROAD
Aspen, Colorado
Aspen Golf and Tennis Club, is an 18-hole municipal course just two miles outside of Aspen. It is a nice test of golf and golfers should score well if they remember to keep their head down and not watch the scenery.

Gothenburg, Nebraska
Wild Horse
Gothenburg is the original home of the Pony Express and also features the Sod Museum. Added to that impressive tandem is, Wild Horse Golf Club, a course that is located within thousands of acres of corn. The course was built by, Dave Axland and Dan Proctor, the same construction team that worked with Ben Crenshaw on the award winning, Sandhills in the northern part of the state. The course is striking in a " Gailes" like way.. There are no trees on the course leaving the fairways to be outlined with grasses and waste areas. They built Wild Horse for a million and a half, which included the half million-dollar clubhouse. The championship tees are just under 7,000 and the course plays to a slope of 134. In a state that grows corn from border to border, this is a welcome change of landscape. If in the area, you need to check this Nebraska gem out.

Carbondale, Colorado
Aspen Glen, the private course designed by Jack Nicklaus Jr. and his dad, has been the top of the line course in the heavily trafficked corridor from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. The complex, completed a decade ago, now has a new rival to content with, a yet unnamed course by Rees Jones in the same locale. By the looks of it, the course should be set to go by next year.

Glenwood Springs
Glenwood Springs Golf Course is considered the best nine-hole course in the state. Nearby, Ranch at Roaring River Golf Club is also a nine-hole beauty.

New Castle, Colorado
Colorado is home base for Engh Designs, the award winning golf course design firm that is responsible for Tullymore and the new True North Golf Club in Harbor Springs. Having been exposed to Mr. Engh's daring design work, we stopped by to see Lakota Canyon Ranch Golf Club, a real estate development and public course that opened last year. It is in New Castle, just up the road from Glenwood Springs. As expected, it is bold in its design, taking some scruffy high plains that has its full share of chasms and tremendous swings in elevation, and transferring the ground to playable and exciting golf holes. Management has Michigan ties, as John Underwood, the assistant at the club, worked at Tullymore for about a year. The Director of Golf is John's brother, Tom Underwood. Their father was the football coach at Ferris State University for many years and is now at San Diego State.

Vail
There are tons of designer courses surrounding this renown ski community. Greg Norman, Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmner and Tom Fazio are but a few well known architects with courses there.

MICHIGAN GOLFER TELEVISION
"'The Haig'" Returns to Traverse City-with Bill Shelton and Walter Hagen"
Walter Hagen has been in the news of late, as he is the next golf legend that Tiger must pass on his way to pass Jack Nicklaus at 18. "The Haig" won 11 Majors before he waved from the bridge and settled first in Detroit and then at Long Lake, near Traverse City. Hagen was the Keynoter for the participants of The Haig Golf Tournament in Traverse City. Join "The Haig" as he reminises about his philosophy of golf, his triumphs, his retirement in Michigan and Arnold Palmer's visit to Traverse City CC to homor him.

"The Concession-with Tony Jacklin and Vanessa Bell"
Vanessa Bell, now touring in the European LPGA, chatted with one of her country's most admired golfesr, Tony Jacklin. The conversation centered around, The Concession, a course he is designing with Jack Nicklaus. In our show, Tony discusses the drama of that Ryder Cup match and the events leading up to Jack Nicklaus conceding Jacklin's two foot putt to half the match for the first time.

HARRIS WINS THIRD TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS IN PLAYOFF
by Tim Hygh
Michael Harris, a 27-year-old touring professional from Troy, won his third career Michigan PGA Tournament of Champions Wednesday by shooting 67 in the final round on Boyne Mountain Resort’s Monument course and then outlasting a charging Scott Hebert in a two-hole playoff. His three round total in the $100,000 event was 69-69-67 - 205 (-11).

Hebert, 36, an assistant professional at Sunnybrook CC near Grand Rapids, began the day two strokes behind Harris, but shot the tournament-low 65 to finish at 11-under-par and force sudden death.

"Scott is bitten by the runner-up bug, I guess," said Harris of Hebert, who finished second to the University of Michigan alum three weeks ago in the Michigan Open at Traverse City. "When you shoot 11-under-par in this tournament you'd think he ought to win. Unfortunately for him, I shot 11-under too."

And while Harris has won the Tournament of Champions three times, Hebert has five T of C runner-up finishes, including the last three years in a row, and now two of them to Harris.

"Always a bridesmaid, huh?" quipped Hebert, who missed a seven-foot par putt on the second playoff hole - the par-three 13th hole - to seal his fate. It was his only bogey of the day. "I read too much into it," Hebert admitted, but nevertheless, was proud of his effort. "I played well. In a playoff, anything can happen. Unfortunately I three-putted. Golf is funny. I goofed up in the playoff but I missed plenty of putts earlier in the week," said Hebert. "My putting is so bad right now I can't tell if I'm stroking them well of not."

The low amateur in the event was Jenny Calkins, a 19-year old from Greenville who plays at the University of Louisville. She finished the event at 5-over-par. Mike Raymond, an amateur from Jackson, who finished 7-over-par, was the low senior.

KINGSLEY CLUB TO HOST PENINSULA CUP
The Kingsley Club co-founders Ed Walker and Art Preston didn't have to think hard when they decided on a name for their two-man, best ball, scratch handicap championship. They followed the Michigan state motto: "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you."

Walker and Preston figured peninsulas mark Michigan's and the Kingsley Club's uniqueness and so was born the Peninsula Cup, which will be inaugurated August 4-6.

The partners wanted to further that goal by sponsoring an invitational tournament that would draw teams from around the country and more than a dozen states will be represented.

For more information about The Kingsley Club, call 231-263-3000 or visit http://www.kingsleyclub.com.

GOLF OUTING TO BENEFIT DEPLOYED MILITARY FAMILIES
Fox Run Country Club, in Grayling, along with the Grayling Holiday Inn and Fays Motel have joined forces to create the "AuSable Adventure Golf Outing" fundraiser to help Military families whose spouses have been deployed to the Middle East. The event is scheduled for August 19, 2005.
