MGN ON THE ROAD
=================
Acme
Grand Traverse Resort & Spa
The parking lot was jammed with members of the MASA (Michigan
Association of School Administrators. We saw a lot of suits walking
around. Hopefully, they changed into golf gear later on in the day.

Archadia
Archadia Bluff
We stopped by to enjoy a refreshing Bloody Mary on the porch of the
Archadia Bluff Clubhouse. It is certainly one of Michigan's great
views in golf.
http://archadiabluff.com

Gaylord
Otsego Club
The new meeting room and lodging facility that is under construction
at Otsego Club iis coming along and should hit its completion date of
mid-December.
http://otsegoclub.com

Ludington
This town is really getting its act together. They have new condos on
the water, a new streetscape, new parking areas and most importantly
new businesses. We also had the opportunity to talk with co-owner of
the Hemlock Golf Course, John Kennedy. Kennedy indicated that rounds
were up for the year and have increased every year since the course
came online.
http://hemlockgolfclub.com

Manistee
Manistee National's two courses, Cutter's Ridge and Canthooke Valley
was bathed in beautiful sunlight when we checked in. Doug Bell, GM of
Manistee National, indicated that the resort saw the other side of
weather last October. They had one of those storms where the wind
comes straight down and on contact with the ground shears anything
around it. Bell said the Canthooke Valley course lost over a thousand
trees and was immediately shut down.Ian Ziska's name was prominent on
the resort sign, as he just won the Norhtern Chapter of the Michigan
PGA championship.

Treetops
The 20th Annual Pepsi Charity Fall Invitational drew nearly 400
golfers to the Smith, Jones and Fazio courses of Treetops this
weekend. This is a massive tournament that draws a quality field of
talented golfers. Kudos to Mike Fernandez, Kevin McKinley, Gene Bone
and other staffers who make this one of Michigan's great tournaments.
We will have the tournament video up on You Tube early next week.

EXECUTIVE/PAR 3 GOLF COURSES-FEEDBACK
========================================
Last week, we asked for some help in identifying executive and par 3
courses in Michigan and received the following:

Here's one for your list:
Cascade Short Course (formerly Hill's Brothers, named after Dave and Mike Hill)
2360 Denton Rd, Jackson
Patrick Kerwin-MGCOA Graphic Designer
---

too long nor daunting. (18)
Tom Lang
----
Art,
You forgot the best one...The Dunes Club. There are 2 sets of tees, but
its the only par 3 in the top 100. I believe golf digest.
Dave Richards-Golf and Resort Marketing
----
Hi Art ,
The Cuff Links at Boyne Highlands, par 3 course 800-462-6963 (Not sure
what the policy on play is . . . not advertised much).

Also, Boyne Rapids in Boyne City has an 18 hole, par 3 chip-n-putt.
Michigan's shortest 18 hole golf course! www.boynerapidsgolf.com ~

Diane Dakins-Petoskey-Harbor Springs-Boyne Country CVB
----
Hey Art...
one of the best kept secrets in Monroe County is the Old Town Course,
on Dixie Hwy, in Frenchtown, North of Monroe... after a busy summer of
opening our new waterpark, i was able to stop by the course on my way
home, and get in a round of 9 holes, playing 2 balls, in just an hour!

The course is in fabulous shape, being maintained by the owner who
also owns a landscaping business...
You should definitely include Old Town on your list of great par 3 courses!

AUGUST GOLF WEATHER HURTS Y-T-D PERFORMANCE
===============================================
Mother Nature has not been as benign to the golf industry as in 2006,
according to the Pellucid Corp. report on Golf Playable Hours (GPH)
for August. At the national level, GPH declined 4.4% compared to last
year. The unfavorable month breaks a string of positive "comparable
weather" months this summer. August results dragged year-to-date (YTD)
GPH measure down to -2.9% compared to 2006.

Performance across Pellucid's 24 weather-based regions showed the
decline was concentrated in seven regions, which suffered significant
declines versus August 2006. As a result of the relatively narrow band
of regions impacted however, the regional breadth figures for August
YTD actually improved slightly to 1:1.4 (five regions with favorable
GPH versus seven regions with unfavorable GPH and 12 neutral versus a
year ago).

On an encouraging note, the July rounds played results reported by
Golf Datatech showed demand outperforming weather for the third
consecutive month. This positive trend brought the YTD
weather-adjusted rounds differential to +1.3 points (each point
translates to outperforming or lagging weather by roughly 5MM rounds
nationally on an annual basis).

CORRECTIONS
==============
Jack Berry pointed out that we have inconsistent in our spelling or
Glenn Johnson's name in our information regarding the Kircher Cup.
Glenn has two n's and we shall mend our ways. Berry pointed out that
our story about the video we did on Adare Manor also needed some
repair. We had indicated that Adare Mamor was the home of the Irish
Open. Actually, The Irish Open is a tournament that moves around
Ireland and has only recently been played at Adare Manor.
Thanks and a Tip of the Tam to Jack Berry for keeping us on our golfing toes.

Adare Golf Club with Cathal O'Sulivan
Ireland's Adare Manor was the site for Robert Trent Jones final major
golf course design. It is now the home of the Irish Open and was
recently extended to its 7453 yards. The Maigue River and a 14 acre
lake provide the usual water hazards that Robert Trent Jones so loved
to create.

Lahinch Golf Club with Jennie McCafferty and Bob McCavery
Lahinch Golf Links almost has it all. They have the history, built in
1892, designer blood lines in Old Tom Morris and Alister MacKenzie, a
storied hole in No. 5 and a location on the Atlantic Ocean. What they
don't have, according to professional Bob McCavery, is the
infrastructure to support a major tournament. It is not near a major
city, they have narrow roads and there are few hotels. Our video gives
you a nice look at the town, course and a recounting of the history by
Bob McCavery, who has been the pro since 1959 after he took over from
his dad, who was there for a couple of decades himself. Enjoy
