MGN ON THE ROAD
Bay City- Bay Valley Resort
Always a pleasure stopping by this Mid-Michigan resort. This Muirhead
design, with a trace of Nicklaus help, has long been the destination
resort in the area. At mile mark 160 on I-75, it offers the possibility
of a late Friday round and lodging, as you head north.

The hotel has been redone, with a new entrance, lobby, restaurant and
kitchen. They are also on target in their goal to renovate the lodging.

Bellaire-Hawk's Eye
Grant Rowe, one of the north country's most successful real estate
developers, introduced his latest, Hawk's Eye GC, to the press at a
media day last week. It is a new course designed by one of Canada's
leading golf architects, John Robinson. Hawk's Eye is a companion
course to The Chief, a course that Robinson designed three years ago.

Hawk's Eye is yet another beautiful Northern Michigan golf course.
Robinson has taken advantage of what the land gave him, has
constructed a course that starts with four strong holes, coasts and
then fires up again. Robinson is proud of the fact that not one of his
over 80 golf courses has gone bankrupt. Basically, he designs courses
for not only the esthetics and challenge, but for the bottom line as well.
The course was in the 3 million dollar range, far less expensive
than many others in the north country.

While the clubhouse is yet to be built, there seems to be now waiting
as the real estate sales around the property have soared.

Robinson has relatively low overhead, as he is the only one on the
payroll. As do most architects, Robinson contracts out the different
services to others and at times only does the course routings and
drawings.

Brimley-Wild Bluff GC
MG had another great stay in Brimley as part of the Bay Mill Open
media entourage this past week. The media tad smaller force with the
absence of Michele Wie, was sparked by the addition of central
Michigan phenom Ryan Brehm and Michigan Amateur champion, Jeff
Cuzzort. Tim Hygh has the story in this issue.

Also had the chance to meet Rob Lussenhop, the new Director of Golf
for Wild bluff. Rob is fresh from a position in Virginia, with
Minnesota being his home state. Welcome to Michigan, Rob.

RYDER CUP-THE 70'S
The 70's were once again a downright nightmare for the Brits as they
continued their losing ways, with five losses. Jay Herbert, Jack Burke,
Arnold Palmer, Dow Finsterwald and Billy Casper all took turns
at the helm as Ryder Cup captains, winners all. For the first time,
the event was held in Scotland, Peter Butler became the first
participant to make a hole in one, Nicklaus was so struck by
Muirfield that he named his course after it, format change brought
the total number of points to be decided to 28, with eight foursomes,
eight fourballs, and 12 singles, team captains would use the "envelope,"
a process where a player's name was sealed in an envelope in the event
either team was reduced to 11 players due to injury or health reasons.
Finally, the 70's brought all of Europe into play, with Jack Nicklaus being
a very strong proponent of this change.

LPGA TIP OF THE WEEK
This week's tip courtesy of Debby Murphy, Bear Lakes Country Club and
Webster Golf Club, Webster, NY

Club sandwich
Think about ordering a club sandwich the next time you play golf.
How many times have you found yourself approaching your greenside
shot knowing that you have not brought the correct club for your next
shot?

Of course we do not walk the thirty or forty steps back to the cart
to get another. This results in a chip shot left short or long which
adds an extra shot or two to our score.

The solution is a "club sandwich." Decide which club you think will
produce the correct shot and then take the next higher and the next
lower club with you as well. If the chip looks like a 9-iron, take along
your pitching wedge and your-8 iron.

LANGER INTERVIEW ON EUROPEAN'S FINAL RYDER CUP TEAM
"I'd like to announce the team in alphabetical order, the ten players
who automatically qualified. We have Paul Casey from England; Darren
Clarke, Northern Ireland; Sergio Garcia from Spain; Padraig Harrington
from Ireland; David Howell, England; Miguel Angel Jimenez from Spain;
Thomas Levet from France; Paul McGinley from Ireland; Ian Poulter
from England; and Lee Westwood from England.

And my two picks are -- actually, let me call Hal Sutton real quick
and see if I can have four picks and he can choose two other guys as
well, makes it a little bit easier -- can you hang on a minute?
(Laughter.) I didn't bring my phone, so I guess not.

Okay, well, my two picks are Colin Montgomerie from England -- no?
Scotland, I'm sorry. He's lived in England long enough. (Laughter.)
My second pick is Luke Donald."

NIP AND TUCK
The Ladies European Tour changed its rules on Tuesday to eliminate
the "female at birth" policy for its members, opening the way for Mianne
Bagger to try to earn her card.

Bagger, a 37-year-old from Denmark, had a sex reassignment surgery
and played in the Women's Australian Open this year. The policy change
allows Bagger to play in European events and go to Q-school.

CAMPBELL WINS 8TH GAM WOMEN'S SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Sue Campbell of Kalamazoo was able to come from three strokes back
and win the 8th GAM Women's Senior Championship on Tuesday at Mt.
Pleasant Country Club. Campbell was able to hold off two time defending
champion Maureen Whitehead and first round leader Irene Sauve, by
carding a back nine, thirty nine. One hundred ladies competed in the
championship, in three flights of play.

WISLER WINS BAY MILLS OPEN
by Tim Hygh
Chris Wisler put an exclamation point on his third career Canadian
Tour title Sunday with a runaway win at the season-ending Bay Mills
Open Players' Championship.

Carrying a comfortable four shot lead into the final round, the
24-year-old Delaware native carded a final-round 2-under 70,
finishing four trips around the challenging Wild Bluff Golf Club with a
12-under 276 total, five shots clear of Ottawa's Scott Hawley, Brad
Fritsch of Manotick, Ont. and Americans Dirk Ayers and Clint Jensen.

Hawley fired a final round 66 and earned $13,725. More importantly,
the payday guaranteed he will retain his playing card for 2005. Prior
to this week, Hawley had earned just over $3,000 this year but his late
kick Sunday means he finishes the season 39th on the money list.

Michigan amateur champion Jeff Cuzzort and South African David Faught
tied for sixth, seven shots off the pace.

Chris Wisler $36,000
Dirk Ayers $13,725
Brad Fritsch $13,725
Scott Hawley $13,725
Clint Jensen $13,725
David Faught $8,100
Jeff (A) Cuzzort $0

FUTURES TOUR GRADUATES
It was FUTURES Tour "graduation day" on Sunday, following the final
round of the season's concluding tournament in York, Pa. And as
expected, there was the full range of emotions by players poised to
move to the next competitive level.

And then the names began being called out, starting with the last
player to earn an automatic berth into LPGA Final Qualifying School
in December: No. 16 Michelle Murphy of Tacoma, Wa. (skipping No. 15
non-exempt LPGA Tour member Smriti Mehra of Calcutta, India); No. 14
Naree Song of Seoul, Korea; No. 13 Allison Hanna of Portland, Ore.;
No. 12 Erica Blasberg of Corona, Calif.; No. 11 Young Jo of Suwon,
Korea; No. 10 Seon-Hwa Lee of Chonan, Korea; No. 9 Kris Tamulis of
Naples, Fla.; No. 8 Kyeong Bae of Seoul; No. 7 Sung Ah Yim of Seoul;
No. 6 Emily Bastel of Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

And if there could have been a drum roll, it would have resounded
prior to the final five names who, because they finished at the top
of the Tour's season money list, earned 2005 fully exempt LPGA Tour
cards: No. 5 Malinda Johnson of Eau Claire, Wis.; No. 4 Aram Cho of Seoul;
No. 3 Nicole Perrot of Vina del Mar, Chile; No. 2 Lindsey Wright of Albury,
Australia; and No. 1 Jimin Kang of Seoul.

19TH HOLE
A young man and a priest are playing together. At a short par-3 the
priest asks, "What are you going to use on this hole, my son?"

The young man says, "An 8--iron, father. How about you?"

The priest says, "I'm going to hit a soft seven and pray."

The young man hits his 8--iron and puts his ball on the green.

The priest tops his 7--iron and dribbles the ball a few yards.

The young man says,"I don't know about you father, but in my church
when we pray, we keep our head down."

______________

An American went to Scotland and played golf with a newly acquainted
Scottish golfer. After a bad tee shot, he played a "Mulligan" which
was an extremely good one. He then asked the Scot, "What do you call
a Mulligan in Scotland?"

"We call it hitting 3"

______________

Police are called to an apartment and find a woman holding a bloody
5--iron standing over a lifeless man. The detective asks, "Ma'am, is
that your husband?"

"Yes", says the woman.

"Did you hit him with that golf club?"

"Yes, yes, I did." The woman begins to sob, drops the club, and puts
her hands on her face.

"How many times did you hit him?"

"I don't know...five, six, maybe seven times.....just put me down for a five."

Thanks and a Tip of the Tam to Jack Minzey for these gems.

DESIGNER NOTES-JACK NICKLAUS ON THE BEAR
"We call this a happy course. And the people who play here are going
to have some challenge and also have some fun, whatever level golfer
they might be."

"With rolling land, trees, lakes, streams and flat land, you have a
mixture of different features that people will see in different
places but rarely on one golf course. That's what makes this course
unique. No two holes are similar."

"As you look at most holes, you see interesting shadowing---done with
the liberal use of mounding, some ledging of the fairways and grass-sided
bunkers. It's a different effect."

"Greens are a little larger than normal with a few more features to
hide the pins but still with ways for the average golfer to get in.
Greens have a nice movement to them."

DOUG OGRON FOR THE RECORD
A good friend of ours, Doug Kurtis, ran one more marathon so that his
total of 40 marathon wins would land him in the Guiness Book of World
Records. Doug, an engineer at Ford and a road race consultant, feels
some degree of immortality with that accomplishment. Woody Allen on
the other hand wanted to achieve immortality by not dying.

David Ogron, rapid fire golf ball striker, wants to achieve his
Guiness Book of World Records by hitting 2147 golf balls at
Mulligan's Golf Center in Auburn Hills on the evening of September
18th. He now owns the record for 12 hours at 6,971 and 24 hours
at 10,392. We might add, that for a ball to be counted, you need to hit
it at least 100 yards within a 30-degree arc.

We got a call from David, who indicates that his appearance should
generate over 100k for the designated charity. He has appeared on
the Best Damn Sport Show Period, the Golf Channel, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox
