BART LOWER AND A TEARY FAREWELL ON BIG BREAK IV
Bart Lower's Big Break career ended not with a bang, but a whimper as he tearfully bade goodbye to his fellow contestants in Big Break IV. Lower, a former member of the EMU golf team team had become such a compelling contestant in Big Break II, that he was invited back to Big Break IV. However the skill that had carried him into the Big Break II finals deserted him, as a couple of wedge shots did not wedge properly. Bart will return to sunny Florida and continue his sales career with Pulte homes and get on with raising his new family.

It was a fun ride for the affable Lower, who still owns Bart's Driving Range in Ionia. If you have a moment check out his website.

"GOLF FOR THE GULF" MGCOA TEES IT UP ON OCTOBER 2ND
On Sunday, October 2, plan to head for a Michigan golf course to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

In response to the many calls for an industry-wide event to support the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, the Michigan Golf Course Owners Association (MGCOA) has declared Sunday, October 2, as ³Golf for the Gulf² day.

To participate, facilities will choose to donate the greens fees for the day or possibly a dollar value per hole. Facilities could also donate $5 per 9 or $10 per 18. Anyway they can use their golf property to generate donations will help this worthy cause. Check with your local golf facilities to see what events they have planned to support this effort.

"Members of the golf industry are a very giving group. Golf courses host charity events on daily basis around the state and stepping up to raise funds for those affected by this natural catastrophe doesn't take a second thought from our members", said Kate Moore, Executive Director of the Michigan golf Course Owners Association.

PODCASTING-ROBERT TRENT JONES AND TREETOPS

We start with the venerable Robert Trent Jones and the grand opening at Treetops. You can not enjoy the show either on your computer or take the show with you on Your IPod Podcasting, they say, is the next generation of radio. We will see.

MG ON THE ROAD
Ypsilanti-Eagle Crest Resort
It is always a pleasure to stop by Eagle Crest Resort and visiting the course that served as my home course during my two decades at the University. EMU has a new President, Dr. John Fallon and a continued source of pride with the leadership of Bruce Cunningham who is in his ninth year as head coach. Keeping EMU in the news is Korey Mahoney who finished high in the U.S. Amateur and Bart Lower, former EMU player that was starring in Big Break IV, before his elimination on Tuesday's show.

BOOK REVIEW- "EVERY SHOT MUST HAVE A PURPOSE"
Pia Nilsson, Lynn Marriott and Ron Sirak, have brought the value of the driving range into their golf instruction philosophy. Their new book, "Every Shot Must Have a Purpose", centers on the importance of your practice time. Unlike Alan Iverson, these folks think practice is important and you need to have a plan for that bucket of balls.

The authors Golf School, "GOLF 54", received the #1 ranking in Golf Magazine's "Top 25 Golf Schools in the United States." In addition, they coach Anita Sorenstam as well as the Swedish national golf team. Basically, the book boils down to establishing and committing to a "Golf 54" philosophy. They feel you should do a regular stretching exercise to warm up and then hit 54 balls in a scripted fashion. What they say, seems to make a lot of sense, and I for one, will have a little more of a plan when I head out to the practice range.

MICHIGAN GOLFER TELEVISION
Bellaire
Shanty Creek and the Michigan PGA Championship-with Tim Hygh Shanty Creek Resort is one of Michigan's premier destinations. Jordan Young, an assistant professional from Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club, finished second and Brad Dean, teaching guru at Crystal Mountain, finished a shot back for 3rd. Join our host Tim Hygh and Michigan PGA COO Kevin Helm as they bring you the action of the championship and the closing awards ceremony.

Brimley-Bay Mills Open
A Tour of Wild Bluff
We conclude our Bay Mills Open Players Tournament coverage with a tour of Wild Bluff Golf Club. The course received rave reviews from the Executive Director of the Canadian Tour as well as many of the golf professionals. It is a special course and much credit needs to go to the Superintendent, John Holberton and his ground crew for having it in great shape. So click on the link and enjoy a great golf course and the haunting music of Micki Free.

THE POWER OF THE INTERNET CONTINUES TO AMAZE
Although GLSP has been at this for over a decade, we still marvel at the power of the Internet. We recently got some statistical software that allows us to track our various online products far easier than before. Usually, I had to spend a day pulling all of the information together. I digress. This past year, October 2004 to September 2005, 155,535 people clicked on one of our Michigan Golf Newsletters. While most clicks were directed to the latest issues, there were still people that found out things we wrote in 2001 when we started all of this. Basically with our 13,259 email blast each week, we can now add on to that figure another 2991 a week coming in through the web, for a grand total of 16,250 a week. Amazing.

TREETOPS PEPSI FALL CHARITY INVITATIONAL
One sure sign of the golf season wrapping up is the staging of the annual Treetops Pepsi Fall Charity Invitational. I played in the tournament a couple of times, once when we were actually in the hunt, and really enjoyed the level of competition. This will be the first year that MG TV covers the event, so look for the coverage on October 7.

SHANTY CREEK RESORT ANNOUNCES FUNDRAISER FOR THE AMERICAN RED CROSS:"ROCKIN FOR RELIEF"

Shanty Creek Resort and Club is planning a full day of activities on Sunday, October 9th at Schuss Mountain, with all proceeds to benefit the American Red Cross. The event will include an 18 hole golf tournament as well as a full afternoon of music, kidıs activities, horse drawn hayrides, chairlift rides, disc golf, food, silent and live auctions, and more.

³We are all painfully aware of the horrendous tragedy that has stricken our southern neighbors in the form of Hurricane Katrina. And like many area businesses and individuals, Shanty Creek Resort and Club employees felt the need to do something to help. With the full backing of the Resortıs management the employees have organized a fundraiser that draws on what the resort does best golf, family fun, entertainment, and food - to raise money to help the Red Cross do what they do best² said Stephen Marek, Vice President of Human Resources.

³This is truly a collective project. This event is taking place because the resort employees stepped forward and said ³what can we do to help?² Every department at the resort will have a hand in it as well as many of the people we work with throughout the year who provide activities and entertainment for our guests. We are also coordinating with area businesses and of course the Red Cross to make this a real commnuity effort², comments Mary Sue Wilkinson, Events and Activities Manager at the resort.

The golf tournament has been named ³Go A Round For Relief² and will be played on the Schuss course beginning at 10am Sunday morning. The tournament fee is $35 and every dollar of the fee will go to the Red Cross. Prizes and players packages are being donated by Shanty Creek and area businesses.

The ³Rockinı for Relief² festivities will take place from 1pm 5pm outside on the deck and lawn at Ivanıs Restaurant. Participants should bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. In case of rain or inclement weather the event will be moved inside to Ivanıs Restaurant. Tickets for the afternoon will be $5 per person or $20 per carload. Children 4 and under are free.

The musical line up at this time includes Nelson Olstrom, Iowa Rose, The Dueling Pianos Show and Doc Woodward and the Motor City Exiles. Tommy Tropic will also be there and as will Lake Effect, playing music just for the kids.

For more information or to register for the golf tournament please contact Shanty Creek Resort and Club at 1-800-678-4111 or visit the web site at http://www.shantycreek.com All donations are tax deductible and 100% of the proceeds raised through this event will go directly to the Disaster Relief Fund of the American Red Cross.
