MGN ON THE ROAD
London, Ontario
London's latest offering, Fire Rock Golf Course, is from one of their
famed Canadian architects, Thomas McBroom. Fire Rock adds some
prestige to the inventory of London courses and its presence should draw
some tourists to the town. The ground was previously used as an aggregate
site. http://firerockgolf.com

Ypsilanti
Bart Lower is Michigan's connection in the Big Break II show currently
showing on the Golf Channel. Bart is a graduate of Eastern Michigan
University's Business Administration program and a member of the golf
team. Bart stopped by the university to chat with students of the Sports
and Event Marketing class to discuss his experience. He said his dream to
play golf professionally was dashed by playing a round with Luke
Donald, now on the tour and a participant in the Ryder Cup. "I was playing in
a match with Luke and the difference in our game was dramatic. It was
almost like he was bored with the match. I was so overmatched I felt
that I could not make it in the professional world," said Lower. He
remained in the golf world by buying a driving range business, Bart's Golf
Center, in his home town of Ionia.

His employee at the range notified him of the chance and he sent in his
application for the show. Bart was one of 10 selected in over 5,000
applicants.

Bart went to Miles of Golf in Ann Arbor and worked with them to hone
his game for the show. He cannot let anybody know how far he went in the
series. Anthony Sorentino from Rochester Hills finished second last
year. The show is on Tuesdays a 9:00 P.M. and is repeated often.

In the first show, Bart drove a 300 yard hole and was putting for a new
Ford. He missed it left.

"DAVE HILL'S RYDER CUP MEMORIES-with Jack Berry"
Dave Hill recalls the match at Royal Birkdale Golf Club and the 16-16
tie that occured with the famous "Concession" putt that Jack Nicklaus
conceded to Tony Jacklin. Dave also discusses the match that Ken Still
and he played against Brian Huggett & Bernard Gallacher, where after a
heated discussion, Hill said to Gallacher, "If you say one more word, I'm
going to wrap this 1-iron around your head." Despite the fireworks,
Brian Huggett, said, "Hill played absolutely magnificently throughout the
week. He held the team together. He stopped us winning. I mean, he won
all his matches."

In our second show, Dave Hill discusses his play at the 1973 Ryder Cup,
which was held at Murifield, Scotland. After flying some 36 hours from
a tournament in Japan, Hill developed some severe abdominal pains and
had to pull himself out of most of the matches. Instead of playing, he
assisted the Ryder Cup Captain, Jack Burke. The U.S. prevailed, 15 to
13. In 1975, Dave Hill returned to Ryder Cup play at Royal Lytham &
St. Annes in St. Annes, England. The U.S. defeated a British and Irish
team 12 1/2 to 7 1/2

In our final Dave Hill's Ryder Cup Memories interview, he discusses his
love of match play and some thoughts about where the Ryder Cup has been
and where it seems to be heading.

The Michigan Golfer is proud to bring our viewers this slice of Ryder
Cup history so nicely presented by Jack Berry and Dave Hill.

VIJAY CLINCHES PLAYER OF THE YEAR
By Associated Press - September 28, 2004

While it was a mere formality, Vijay Singh made it official. His
victory Sunday at the 84 Lumber Classic clinched his first PGA of
America player of the year award.

Singh's eighth victory, including a major, gives him 140 points in the
standings. That is enough to mathematically eliminate Phil Mickelson
(second in the standings), even if Lefty were to win the final five
tournaments of the year.

The points-based system awards 30 points for a major, 20 points for The
Players Championship and 10 points for all other tour events. The
41-year-old Fijian also gets 20 points for having the lowest scoring average
and 20 points for leading the PGA Tour money list.

Tiger Woods won the PGA of America award the last five years, and six
out of the last seven. Singh becomes the first international player to
win the award since Greg Norman in 1995.

The PGA Tour player of the year award is a vote of the players which
takes place after the Tour Championship, although that figures to be a
tap-in for Singh.

The only major award still up for grabs is the Vardon Trophy for the
lowest adjusted scoring average. Singh leads that category at 68.92, with
Mickelson at 68.94. Woods and Ernie Els (69.06) are still in the
running.

THE HICK FROM FRENCH LICK IS TRUMPED BY THE DONALD AND FUZZY
Larry Bird and a group of investors lost their bid to build a new
casino in French Lick to a group headed up by Donald Trump and Fuzzy
Zoeller. The French Lick Hotel and Spa was one of the nation's largest gaming
areas at one time and had lobbied hard to make it a gaming destination
once again.

PAUL MCGINLEY ON HAL SUTTON AND THE RYDER CUP
"I do feel sorry for Hal Sutton, because to me the role of captain in a
Ryder Cup is twofold, and one is equally as important as the other. One
is to win the Ryder Cup and have the right strategy and do your best to
win it, but second is the ambassador role, which I thought he played
superbly well.

A lot of time for Hal Sutton now having gone through the week with him,
the way he was in the press, because we watched the press conferences
in the team room, the way he was grilled, the way he took it on the
chin, but the ambassador role which he played, which I think is equally
important, he played magnificently well. I mean to give you an example.

We were all worse for wear all coming down 4:30 in the morning. We
hadn't slept at all before getting on the team coach for the airport. As I
say, all the worse for the wear, and Hal and his wife had gotten out of
bed, come down to the foyer and shook everybody's hand before we got on
the bus. That to me is what the Ryder Cup is about. He got a lot of
stick in the press room because he lost, and the strategy and so forth.

But to me the role is twofold, but he played the ambassador role and he
deserves credit for that. That's going to be a big factor in my mind in
the next cup. Bernhard played it absolutely magnificently. Win, lose or
draw he was always going to do that, because he's not just representing
the players. And it's important, we're all competitive, we want to win
the Ryder Cup, but they're also representing the European Tour, all you
guys, all the press, every one of the Tour sponsors, the hierarchy of
the Tour, Ken Schofield and George O'Grady. So much has been represented
and heaped on the captain's shoulders for that week and it's important
it's carried off in the right way, and all credit to Hal Sutton."

GRAND RAPIDS JAYCEES FOUNDATION SETS DEADLINE FOR GOLF TOURNAMENT SPONSOR SEARCH
The Grand Rapids Jaycees Foundation will continue its search for a
Title Sponsor of the 2005 Champions Tour golf tournament through the
end of October. The search for a Title Sponsor(s) offers a company the
ability to partner with the Champions Tour and the Grand Rapids Jaycees in
producing West Michigan's premiere sporting event as well as the only
professional sporting event in Grand Rapids. This Champions Tour event, one
of only 30 national events, offers national and international
television coverage as well as significant regional and local exposure for
partnering companies.

The company(s) that serves as the lead sponsor will have one-of-a-kind
opportunities to entertain clients, increase brand awareness and be the
impetus for keeping this community asset in Grand Rapids. The Title
Sponsor ensures that the tournament can offer prize money that will
attract Champions to West Michigan such as Hale Irwin, Fuzzy Zoeller, Craig
Stadler, Peter Jacobsen - and coming to the Champions Tour in 2005 -
Greg Norman and Curtis Strange.

The tournament which has donated more than $3 million to West Michigan
charities is also on the verge of celebrating its 20th anniversary in
Grand Rapids, as the Champions Tour celebrates its 25th year. The
Jaycees event is the second-longest running event on the Champions Tour.

"There comes an appropriate time when you need to have all the
components together to produce a successful event and we are nearing that
time," said Catherine A. Prein, president of the Grand Rapids Jaycees
Foundation. "We continue to search for a partner to continue the great
history of professional golf in Grand Rapids,".

Farmers Insurance completed their contractual obligations after the
2004 event and decided not to renew their sponsorship of the 19-year
Champions Tour event. "Farmers has been a terrific partner for us in so
many areas; strategically, through strong leadership, and certainly
financially. We will miss their significant presence but look forward to
partnering with them as one of the tournament's sponsors," said Executive
Director Brian Kemp.

"The positive feedback that I have received from our community,
sponsors, volunteers, and players throughout the search process has been
tremendous. No one wants to see this event end," said Kemp. "We have the
ability to customize the Title Sponsorship package to adapt to a
company's strategic objectives as well as to align our primary charities with
those of the sponsor. We need to find someone with the right fit so we
can start getting companies and players committed for the '05
tournament."

Companies interested in exploring opportunities for Title Sponsor(s)
should contact the tournament's Executive Director, Brian Kemp, at
616.949.4653 ext. 1.
