HORSESHOE BAY REVISITED

"Good Day Art, I was very disappointed in the " Top 16 Wisconsin
Courses" article you ran in the MGN that on one voted for Horseshoe
Bay."
Best Wishes Brian Lussier Robbins & Associates International

*Editor's Note

Brian, when we put the article together, it was with the understanding
that Horseshoe Bay was private and as such would have been left off our
public course list. When finding out from you that Horseshoe Bay will
not be private until NEXT year we are reprinting the list with the
addition of Horseshoe Bay. We are also running the article that we did
in 2001 about Horseshoe Bay.

Horseshoe Bay GC

Door County's Horseshoe Bay GC, located near Green Bay, is Wisconsin's
answer to Traverse City's Mission Point Peninsula. It is a rich area of
history, recreation, fun and water.

Horseshoe Bay GC was designed by Rick Robbins and Brian Lussier.
Robbins also worked with Gary Koch in designing Otsego Club's
Tribute.

The golf business is the culmination of an 80-year dream of the Frank
Cowles family. They were visionaries in the dairy business in Wisconsin
and extremely successful. Their barn shaped clubhouse is a replica of
the famous Cowles barn of the past. It is also home to Murphy's Bar and
Grill.

We thoroughly enjoyed the course and found that the traps worked in
that they seemed to find everybody's game. The course features little
water, but numerous traps. There were a number of outcroppings of rock,
primarily because they only could dynamite just so much of the course.
The Double Delicious 13th hole provides a double fairway and the 14th,
named, Udderly Dangerous, can live up quickly to its name. The 18th
hole, which finishes next to the members clubhouse is a spectacular
hole that drops down through a limestone walled boundary on the one
side and a sharp drop-off in back of the green, where golfers will be
able to view Horseshoe Bay. This is a very special hole and is one that
will bring you back.

Rick Robbins indicated that they wanted to create a modern golf course
with a 'turn of the century feel. It certainly has all of that. It is a
semi-private course, so you need to call for additional information.

(Horseshoe Bay GC will turn private in 2004)

Rick Smith, the owner of Treetops, an instructor for many PGA Tour
stars and one of The Golf Channel's rising stars is co-host of the
series.

Rick introduced the players on a special edition of the Golf Academy.

BOBBY JONES COMES TO LIFE IN NEW MOTION PICTURE AND BOOK

With Bobby Jones coming to life as the subject of a major motion
picture --A Stroke of Genius -- and the upcoming 75th anniversary of
his winning of the Grand Slam, Sports Media Group (an imprint of Ann
Arbor Media Group) has launched its first book in honor of golf's most
revered player.

"Bobby Jones: Portrait of a Champion", chronicles the legendary
golfer's career from the ill-tempered youth to his rise to American
hero status. Historian and award-winning author Sid Matthew says of
legendary O.B. Keeler's book, "For some unknown reason this book has
been a well-known secret for over half a century." Matthew would know.
He has written several popular books on Jones and has a major Jones
film on his resume.

The book will hit the bookstores in October, and having enough orders
from its accounts to sell out the first printing, Sports Media Group
already has the book back on press for another 5000 copies. With A
Stroke of Genius scheduled for release in April of 2004, and 2005
marking the 75th anniversary of golf's only Grand Slam, interest in
Jones will be high. Bobby Jones: Portrait of a Champion will serve as
an entertaining reference for those who want to learn about his career
in a more intimate way. O.B. Keeler, who traveled over 150,000 miles
with his friend celebrity subject, reveals a personal side of Jones
that helps golf fans understand what made him truly special as a player
and as a person.

Bobby Jones: Portrait of a Champion is available in hard cover and has
a suggested retail price of 17.95.

UPPER DECK CONTEST GIVES MADISON HEIGHTS TEEN CHANCE TO BE COACHED BY TIGER WOODS

Only a year out of high school, Detroit-area teen and current steel
shop worker Tommy Brickweddle has won a once-in-a-lifetime chance to
continue his education. Except class will take place not in the halls
of higher learning, but on a golf course, and with an instructor that's
been known to bend a bit of metal himself (off the tee, that is): Tiger
Woods.

One of 14 winners in Upper Deck's ""wing with Tiger" sweepstakes,
Madison Heights, Brickweddle, 19, beat the odds in making his way to
the Oct. 13 clinic. His entry was chosen among nearly 20,000, a record
for the three-year old contest.

Brickwiddle works with his dad in the same steel shop, has played golf
since the age of 12, and shoots in the 90s. He counts Maple Lane
(Sterling Hills, Mich.) G.C. among his favorite local courses.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK-THE BIG BREAK (selected responses to last night's show)

"(sigh) more reality TV is causing my television to find itself in the
'off' mode more often than not. This really would be a 'made for TV'
moment only. Do we really need more forms/ways for guys to make it to
the tour?

OK for the short run. Very boring in the long run. Who wants to see
third rate golf professionals duke it out in skills tests?!! I don't
even watch the skills contests with the PGA Tour pros.

Why doesn't TGC come to my local club and film me and my golfing pals
as we square off for an exciting Saturday morning match?!!!

Who wants to watch 4 hacks play.....

1st tee- cold top your driver, tee up another and declare it your
mully, hit the big banana into the cabbage. Foot wedge, tip up, chunky
3 iron from 150 yds, chunked chip, skulled chip across the green, chip
on, 3 putt from 8 feet. Open your 3rd beer of the round and record a 4
for par and head for the 2nd tee box......
