GCSAA Donates Funds to National Relief Effort

Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) President Tommy D. Witt, CGCS, has announced a series of contributions to relief efforts in the wake of the tragic events of Sept. 11.

To aid those in need, the association has pledged $50,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund (http://store.yahoo.com/redcross-wtc1/) on behalf of all GCSAA members; is participating in the golf industry's On Course America (http://www.oncourseamerica.org) program developed by the National Golf Course Owners Association with donations being accepted for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund; and is facilitating the collection and administration of donations from GCSAA's 102 chapters on behalf of the Metropolitan GCSA (http://www.gcsaa.org/reliefefforts.pdf) for the American Red Cross and the FDNY and NYPD Relief Fund. In addition, GCSAA is directing proceeds to relief efforts from the Robert Trent Jones Invitational Tournament, hosted annually by Metedeconk National Golf Club, that would normally go to The GCSAA Foundation (http://www.gcsaa.org/about/foundation/foundation.html) for its Robert Trent Jones Endowment Fund for the GCSAA Scholars Program and its "Investing in the Beauty of Golf" endowment campaign for research and education.

"We offer our assistance and prayers to the victims and the relief workers in the wake of these senseless attacks," Witt said. "I ask that GCSAA members make an extra effort to dedicate themselves to making this world a better place in which to live. We have a special membership and I know the collective spirit will help our nation prevail in this time of need."
