MGN On the Road

MGN visited Southeastern Michigan this week, stopping by Pierce Lake, the Grande GC, Blackberry Patch, Rustic Glen and Calderone Farms.

Pierce Lake, a Harry Bowers creation was in very nice shape and the course had a nice supply of golfers. We love that first hole, it is just terrific. We stopped at the Grande GC in Jackson, to take some photos and shoot some video with GM, Steve Southard. What an absolutely wonderful course. The Grande is on target with the rounds they had projected for the year and everybody was smiling. Steve said, "We are fixing any problems with see with our new course immediately, the golfers are responding to the care we are giving the course and our attention to detail."

We visited with Bob Magness of Blackberry Patch in Coldwater. Two years ago, the course needed some maturation and this new golf community needed new homes on it; both these things have accomplished. Bob is pumped with the success the course has enjoyed, the great work of superintendent, Pam Smith and their new teaching facility. The rounds are up at Blackberry Patch and Bob is keeping the prices sensible. Calderone Farms is still in the building process, with the clubhouse and parking lot still to be done. The course is growing in nicely. Bill Newcomb, course designer, indicated that they are close to the budgeted rounds for the year, but hopes for a long warm fall. We stopped by Rustic Glen, in Saline, just as the sun was disappearing. Greg and Harley Hodges have done a great job in transforming this sleepy nine hole course into a really playable 18 hole gem. It was a great fall day to be away from the keyboard and enjoy five of our over 1000 golf treasures.
