MGN ON THE ROAD

Waterloo
We stopped by to see Keith Haglund's Waterloo course on a crisp fall morning. It was a little early for play, but it was nice just seeing what Keith and his family have done over the years, to a start up nine hole course. http://www.jackson-mich.org/Golf/golfcourses.htm

Lake Michigan Hills
Mike Shields, GM of both Lake Michigan Hills and Gleneagles, was trying to get out the door to play some golf, but stopped long enough to chat and indicate that they had a fairly decent summer. He indicated that 70% of the Lake Michigan Hills play comes from northern Indiana. http://lakemichiganhills.com

The Jackal
The Jackal has weathered early falls, late springs and its share of erosion trying to open, but the course is finally coming into its own, says, Fritz Middleton, Director of Golf. Frtiz was on staff at the Country Club of Lansing for the better part of a decade before he signed on at the Jackal. He is up beat about the course and its acceptance. "I really expected a few naysayers for the course, but I have been surprised by how much our community accepts the course. They like the terrific visitas from our ski hills, but more importantly, they feel the course is challenging," say Middleton.

One of the big surprises on the course is a pair of waterfalls. Waterfalls seem to be in vogue on new courses, I spotted on at the new strategic.
